Lagos (NG) texture: Yaba Market Yoruba plus Igbo calls, okada bikes, danfos on Herbert Macaulay Way, Gala sellers on the bridge, MTN kiosk flyers, naira on the 25th, Agege bread and egusi at compound, Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge haze, Freedom Park cafe with a paper notebook not a phone. Family meets in a garden, not a hall, to keep it civil and affordable. Currency, carrier and landmark appear five times per story.
Nairobi (KE) texture: Westlands glass, Kenyatta Avenue, Safaricom and M-Pesa alerts, matatu horns, roast maize and rain on tarmac, museum garden, Westlands to Mombasa road, shilling coins, Nyama Choma after pitch. Heroine often has startup or NGO job; hero drives car that actually gets stuck in Thika Road traffic.
Johannesburg and Cape (ZA) texture: Soweto amapiano from a taxi, Vodacom towers, load-shedding torchlight work at cold box, Cape vineyard wind, rooibos tea at jetty, rand, Table Mountain haze, community hall harvest festival not a church. Love grows while they fix a tap or share puff-puff with a schoolgirl.
Why does it matter for Google? Because when someone searches nairobi office romance, the page that actually walks past Kenyatta Avenue and mentions Safaricom reads as more helpful than generic office story. We give algorithm city signals and reader a bench they recognize.
Try it: open three stories with same trope, different country. You will see same eight chapters — Meeting/Problem/City/Heart/Twist/Choice/Fade/Morning — but City chapter is always different, heroine job is local (bookstore owner in Yaba vs teacher in Kisumu vs nurse in Soweto), and final promise happens at dawn with puff-puff, mandazi or rooibos depending where you are.
